The QuikRead®
Orion Diagnostica's QuikRead® CRP System consists of an easy-to-use small instrument and dedicated, ready-to-use reagent kits making it perfect for on the spot, point of care testing and results. The system is especially convenient for small laboratories and doctors' offices but it is also a useful addition to large hospital departments.
The QuikRead® CRP is a simple test for quantitative determination of C-reactive protein (CRP) in whole blood, serum or plasma using the QuikRead® Instrument.
CRP is normally present in very low concentration in the blood of healthy people however; production of CRP is rapidly induced in response to infection, inflammation and tissue injury. CRP concentration is increased markedly by invasive bacterial infection, whereas a viral infection usually causes little, or no rise in CRP concentration.
Combined with careful clinical assessment, QuikRead® CRP can help the healthcare practitioner in differentiating between bacterial and viral infection.
Features:
- Small fingerstick blood sample
- Results in less than 3 minutes
- As accurate as a laboratory test
- Simple to operate
The QuikRead® CRP is comparable with clinical chemical analysers in terms of accuracy and speed however, as the QuikRead® CRP is a point of care test, results are available within approximately 3 minutes. Lab testing requires the samples to be sent away for analysis. Patients would then require a second appointment to receive their results.
By determining if a patient has a bacterial or viral infection, the healthcare practitioner can make an informed decision before choosing to prescribe antibiotic treatment patient. This not only saves money, but also prevents patient immunity from building due to continued use of antibiotics.
Each CRP Kit contains 50 tests consisting of:
- CRP Reagent Caps (2 x 25 pcs)
- Buffer 120 ml
- Magnetic card x 1
- Capillaries (50 pcs) and plungers (50 pcs)
- User Instructions
- The workstation (pictured) is available separately.
Storage 2 - 8ºC
Sample Size - Only 20 µl of whole blood is needed. Serum or plasma samples can also be used. Capillary whole blood, EDTA and heparin samples of whole blood or plasma can be used.
Measurement range - 8-160 mg/µl, samples with high CRP concentration >160 mg/l) can be diluted.
Antigen excess. No antigen excess has been detected with concentrations <600 mg/l.
Quality Control - For best high quality performance a regular use of QuikRead® CRP Control is recommended.
